The Vezo are semi-nomadic fishermen living along the coasts of Madagascar, mostly south. Since their arrival 2000 years ago, the tribe has been migrating periodically, moving with the seasons and the movements of fish species.

This routine has served as a safety valve to over-population and diminishing resources in a particular fishing area. However, the intrusion of foreign markets into Madagascar's waters and their industrial fishing methods are threatening this equilibrium.

 
These practices are a drain on the local eco-system and the Vezo, free-diving hunters who use homemade harpoons, are left with fewer fish to hunt with every passing season.
