BEFORE THE STORM

The now disappeared refugee camp in Calais, northern France, reached 10 000 inhabitants at some point before being cleared at the end of 2016.

Always a source of debate, "The Jungle" has been the background for some major injustices, in which french authorities and the United Kingdom government itself mistreated war refugees as illegal immigrants.

However, among the riots, tear gas and fire, the camp also had room for some peaceful times. Just like a small village, some of its members seemed to almost enjoy the calm of their daily duties, regardless of their difficult conditions.

At the end of 2016 thousands of refugees were forced to leave and relocate in different regions all over France.
